NDU Bans Signing-Out Celebrations, Warns Students Against Indecent Conduct
The management of Niger Delta University (NDU), Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State, has announced an outright ban on signing-out ceremonies and other related activities traditionally carried out by final-year students after their examinations.
The decision was reached at the 180th Meeting of the Committee of Provost and Deans (CPD), held on Monday, 17th November 2025, where members deliberated on what they described as the rising wave of unsafe and unruly behaviour among students marking the completion of their final exams.
According to the University, the trend of students wearing white T-shirts and other improvised uniforms to celebrate their “signing out” has increasingly resulted in disorderliness and threats to public safety within and around the campus.
In a statement signed by the Registrar, Dr. Emmanuel Amaegbe, the University announced several restrictions aimed at restoring discipline and ensuring a conducive environment during examinations.
Among the directives issued are:
- A total ban on signing-out ceremonies within the university and its environs.
- Prohibition of unapproved uniforms and T-shirts during examinations.
- Ban on all non-approved gatherings of final-year students after their final examinations.
- Restriction of students from approaching security personnel and vehicles within the campuses during examination periods.
The statement further warned that violators of the rules—particularly those involving signing-out activities, unauthorized clothing, and interference with security personnel—risk having their examinations cancelled and may face additional disciplinary actions before the Senate Students Disciplinary Committee.
The University urged students to adhere strictly to the new directives, emphasising that the measures were necessary to maintain order, safety and academic integrity on campus.
