Oil Spillage: Bayelsa Government to Partner NGO, SACA for Public Enlightenment

The Bayelsa State Ministry of Environment has announced plans to partner with a non governmental organization, Stakeholders Alliance for Corporate Accountability, SACA to educate and enlighten the public about the effect of oil spillage on the environment and water.

Representative of the Ministry of Environment, Mr Jeremiah Dagana came out with this while speaking to newsmen saying the dangers of oil spillage are enormous.

Mr Dagana pointed out that oil spillage has caused a lot of sicknesses to people and environment which most persons do not know hence the need for more enlightenment.

He noted that the ministry is collaboration with the organization to help residents to understand the negative impact of oil spillage on their health and wellbeing.

” The oil spillage has been affecting our people and many do not know the dangers involved so the ministry is assisting the campaign of SACA to make sure that we sensitize the people to know the impact of these on our fresh water system”

He explained that the water bodies which harbors all the biodiversity is a source of livelihood for most people in the state adding that oil spillage makes fishes and other water creatures drift away to safer places.

Mr Dagana further explained that men and women exposed to the effects of oil spillage may likely bear children who are deformed, develop cancer, respiratory problems and other sicknesses.
