
Opuama Residents Call Out for Help From Government
Residents of Opuama Community in Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa state call out to the state government to come to their aid by providing portable water for them.
The residents who lamented their condition as it concerns water said most of the houses in the community lack latrine hence the river serves as avenue for them to defecate, wash clothes and do other things with water.
As a result of this unhealthy practice, the people are exposed to various sicknesses and diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, typhoid fever and other water borne diseases.
A monarch in the community, Chief Amain Agadaga said clean and portable water has become a luxury for them and gas flaring activities has also contributed to the pollution of the water.
According to him, the river serves as their major source of water supply adding that
nonavailability of portable water is what causes people to drink from the river.
The people of Opuama Community are appealing to all relevant authorities in the local government area as well as the state government to provide solution for them to have clean and portable water in their community.
