President Tinubu Swears in Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday administered the oath of office to renowned tax expert Taiwo Oyedele at a brief ceremony held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Speaking shortly after the swearing-in, President Tinubu described the appointment as a vote of confidence in Oyedele’s competence, dedication, and proven track record in fiscal policy and tax reforms.
The President commended the new Minister of State for Finance for his professionalism while serving as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, noting that his expertise and commitment played a significant role in shaping ongoing reforms aimed at simplifying Nigeria’s tax system.
According to the President, Oyedele’s work has contributed to efforts designed to expand the nation’s revenue base and create a more business-friendly economic environment.
“We are very proud of your knowledge, your simplicity, ambition, and excellence,” President Tinubu said, while also acknowledging the support of the minister’s wife in managing the demands of public service.
The President further praised Oyedele for his patience, determination, and passion for national service, noting that the responsibility of managing fiscal policy at a time of economic transition requires competence and resilience.
“It is a very challenging job because we look at the fiscal policy and responsibility that come with it at a time when economic stability is being experienced but without exponential growth. It is always very difficult, but you are fit to be there,” Tinubu stated.
Oyedele, an economist, accountant, and public policy expert from Ikaram in Akoko area of Ondo State, brings decades of professional experience in taxation, fiscal policy, and economic reforms.
He studied at Yaba College of Technology, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance, and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
The new minister also completed executive education programmes at London School of Economics, Yale University, Gordon Institute of Business Science, and Harvard Kennedy School, further strengthening his expertise in economic policy and governance.
Before his appointment, Oyedele spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he joined in 2001 and rose through the ranks to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
He is also a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and serves as a visiting scholar at Lagos Business School.
The appointment is expected to further strengthen the federal government’s efforts to reform Nigeria’s fiscal framework and promote sustainable economic growth.
