Measles spread easily when infected person breathes, coughs or sneezes. The early symptoms are runny nose, cough, watery eyes, redness of the eyes, small white spots on the cheeks, the later symptoms are rashes usually on the face and upper neck.

According to the World Health Organization, WHO, measles is a highly contagious airborne disease caused by a virus that can lead to severe complications and death.

It can affect anyone but it is common in children. Reports say an estimate of over 120,000 people died of measles in 2021, mostly children under the age of 5years despite the availability of the vaccine.

Why your child needs the measles vaccine

PREVENTS THE SICKNESS MEASLES

  • Getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent being sick with measles or spreading it to other people.

THE VACCINE IS SAFE AND FIGHTS OFF VIRUS

  • The vaccine is safe and it helps the body to fight off the virus.

Preventive Measles Vaccination Campaign for children aged 9 months to 5 years will begin in Bayelsa State from the 3rd-9th December 2023.

We appeal to all parents, guardians and care givers to make use of this opportunity to vaccinate their children to prevent measles. Spread this to others!
